Aldeguer holds off Ogura ahead of qualifying

The Spaniard now prepares for qualifying after finishing the last Practice session fastest ahead of Ogura and Dixon

Fermin Aldeguer (Beta Tools SpeedUp) ended the second Practice session quickest at the Red Bull Grand Prix of The Americas. The Spaniard set a 2:07.543, earning a spot in Q2 and claimed a new lap record, a mere 0.026 ahead of MT – Helmets MSI’s Ai Ogura in second. The Japanese rider continues a consistent weekend after topping the opening Free Practice on Friday and now heads into qualifying ahead of Jake Dixon (CFMOTO Asterius Aspar Team). The Brit set just nine laps throughout the session, finding time late in the session to jump to third in the time sheets.

It was an impressive showing from both OnlyFans American Racing Team riders, with Marcos Ramirez ending the session fourth after topping the time sheets with 20 minutes to go. It was an eventful session for teammate Joe Roberts, who despite a crash at turn eight, Roberts remounted and ended the Practice in fifth. Alonso Lopez (Beta Tools SpeedUp) was sixth, a further 0.011 behind Roberts, and continuing a strong showing from Lopez. Manuel Gonzalez brought the Triumph-powered QJMOTOR Gresini Moto2™ machine to seventh, ending the session ahead of Jeremy Alcoba (Yamaha VR46 Master Camp Team), who has consistently been inside the top 10 all weekend.

Portuguese GP race winner Aron Canet (Fantic Racing) ended the session in ninth, ahead of the second MT Helmets – MSI machine of Sergio Garcia. Barry Baltus (RW-Idrofoglia Racing GP) heads in qualifying in 11th in the combined standings, continuing a strong showing. Dennis Foggia (Italtrans Racing Team) and Elf Marc VDS Racing Team’s Tony Arbolino managed to sneak inside the top 14 in 12th and 13th, with Bo Bendsneyder (Pertamina Mandalika GAS UP Team) becoming the final rider to progress straight to Q2.

Some big names will now head to Q1, including Filip Salac (Elf Marc VDS Racing Team), who ended the session in 22nd position. Somkiat Chantra (IDEMISTU Honda Team Asia) and Celestino Vietti (Red Bull KTM Ajo) will join Salac in Q1 later on.
